I make functional and decorative ceramics in porcelain and stoneware clay.
I have always drawn and painted but my ceramic journey began in 2014 when I started an adult education class in pottery. I immediately loved everything about working with clay - particularly the possibilities of markmaking using coloured slips and underglazes. I am interested in exploring the relationship between form and scale and how a collection of objects can be linked together through process. Each piece is individually handmade using thrown, handbuilding or slipcast elements.
I have an HND in Product Design (Ceramics) from Morley College, London and exhibited at New Designers 2019, London in June.
In September I was selected to exhibit at Design Fresh, Olympia, a showcase for recent graduates curated by Barbara Chandler, Design Editor at Homes & Property, Evening Standard.
I was so excited at the beginning of the year to be awarded two bursaries to exhibit. The first as part of Design Discovered at the Design Arcade, Grand Designs Show and a second to exhibit as part of Surrey Artists Open Studios. Sadly, the current situation prevents any participation and all events are put on hold or cancelled. However, watch this space - I'm planning to post new work for sale online very soon.
I work from my home studio overlooking Ashtead Common in Surrey.
